Bullseye Bulletin, August 2010

*********************************************************
A Few Words from the MAC President.......
The heat of the summer is still upon us but just around the corner hunting season will be here.  There is not much time to practice and get those bows tuned.  The Thursday night 3D shoots last until the end of the August and we have our last 3D shoot "The Greg Sisk Memorial 3-Man Shoot" on August 28th.  You still have enough time to get your three scores in to qualify for "3D Shooter of the Year".

Last month was a busy month for shooting at MAC, with our 4-Man Team Shoot.  1st Place went to Tommy Jenkins, Brian Benson, Authur Sommers and Wade Colton.  Brian Benson had the high score with a 191.  The food was great again, thanks to all those who prepared and donated food.  Also thanks to John Barbee for donating the pig.  We also had our Annual Shoot last month.  We had a fair amount of shooters and a whole lot of fun.  Justin Lloyd won the Long Distance Shot at 104 yards.  Wade Colton won the 1st round of the Iron Buck Contest at 50 yards, while Arthur Sommers took the second round.  Wade Colton and Charlie Wright tied in the Coon Shoot and split the money.  Finally, Ray Kimble from Shenandoah Archers, won the TUFFMAN 3D shoot.  Again the food was excellent and we really appreciated all those who brought food.

Food donations will also be needed for the 3-Man Shoot on August 28th and our Annual Awards Banquet which is scheduled for September 25th.  Speaking of our banquet, I believe it will be bigger and better than last year, with more awards, great food, door prizes, and raffles for some great gear.  Please plan to attend; you just may be receiving an award.

Until Then, Wade

Bullseye Bulletin, May 2010

A Few Words from the MAC President.......
If you like to shoot archery and have fun, July is a great month. With five Thursday nights in this month to shoot 3D's, our 4-Man 3D Team Shoot, plus our Annual where there will be a F/H Round both Saturday and Sunday, a "TUFF" Man 3D Shoot, a Coon Shoot on Saturday night and some novelty shoots, not to mention great food, horseshoes and possibly a card game. If you would like to compete for club champion, you must shoot the Annual F/H Round and have a total of at least three scores.

On another note, I had the pleasure of shooting a spot round with Tim Frenz. It was his first time shooting spots and I want to congratulate him on shooting over a 500 score his first time out.
The few who shot the 2-Man 1/2 and 1/2 Shoot also had the pleasure of shooting with a guest, Barney, from Washington State who was in the area and saw our website. Sorry, but I don't remember Barney's last name. Anyways, Arthur Sommers and Jeremy Spiker won the shoot. Brian Benson also won the novelty shoot by hitting an aluminum can at 103 yards.

On a final note, turnouts for meetings and work parties have been really low. We have a lot of shoots this month and a lot of work that needs to be done. I would really like to see some able bodies at the range to help out. Also, side dishes will be needed and appreciated for the 4-Man Team Shoot and Club Annual, please contact Gina Nadzam for more info.

Thanks, Wade

A Few Words from the MAC President.......
Our outdoor season is fully underway with Thursday Night 3Ds, the 2-Man Spot League and our first major 3D shoot of the year this month. Congratulations to the 50/50 payback winners, Jayson Sealock and Tim Reedy on May 6th - George Jenkins and Tommy Jenkins May 21st. So far these are the only Thursday shoots that we’ve had enough shooters to payback. So come on out and just maybe you could win too.

Our 2-Man Unknown Team Shoot on May 8th went very well. We had a good turnout and a very challenging course. The winners were: 1st Place-Jeremy Spiker and Jay Sealock; 2nd Place-Tommy Jenkins and Gina Nadzam; 3rd Place-JR Kirby and myself. MAC also raised over $100 for the March of Dimes with a 3D Shoot that was held on May 14th. Thanks to all who participated and donated money.

I want to thank all those who showed up for the work party on April 24th, Dave Robinson, Al Painter, Gina Nadzam and Hunter Munson. Also thanks to Arthur Sommers for spraying the range and grounds for ticks and chiggers. Hopefully this will help deter those little bloodsuckers.

We would also like members to submit photos of your hunting harvest to post on the MAC website for a new hunting gallery.

On a final note, I’m concerned about all the negative things being said about the range and the way shoots are run. Remember, this is “your” club. If you see something that needs to be done, take some initiative and help out rather than complain. If you have not paid your dues, then you should not complain at all. This is not meant to make anyone mad but to get club members to work together and do their part to make this the best club possible.

Thanks and I’ll see ya on the Range, Wade.

email from David Burpee......
Ladies and gentlemen,
Yes, it is that time again. I'm getting great input to FLIGHT from VBA members and through you hope to keep the momentum. Can you please let your members know that for the summer I am looking for articles/information in the categories listed below. The articles don't need to be long. And, if pictures are available that would be great in .pdf format. Also, if a member does not feel comfortable writing an article, have him/her call me. We can discuss the info over the phone, I'll draft the article and send it to them for approval.

Trophy Room -- Anything about hunts left over from last year or turkey/hog or other hunts this year. Or, just a general story about hunting -- challenges, funny events, beauty of the outdoors, etc.

Club article -- Anything about a VBA club. I thought I heard someone mention they might do an article on the Iron Man Shoot???? Other ideas include short history of club, support to charities, involvement with education programs, etc.

Club ads -- We can print an ad for a key club event, e.g. annual shoot, etc. This issue we hope to have ads for the Dutch & Mertie and Iron Man shoots. Ads can range from a full page to a quarter page depending on space available.

Recipes -- I don't have one for this issue. Get some with author's name and send them to me. I'll feed them into the FLIGHT over the next few issues (pun intended....).

Idea Corner -- Each club has something they think is mundane, but would be an idea for others. For example, this issue we will run pictures and have an article about the methods used at Augusta to hang bows and store bow cases. Routine requirement, interesting solution. Please think about your situation and send an idea.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP. DEADLINE TO GET ME "STUFF" IS JUNE 14. EARLIER WOULD BE BETTER SO I WON'T BE SURPRISED BY A LOT OF INFORMATION AT THE LAST MINUTE.
Regards,
Dave

A Few Words from the MAC President…..
Indoor season is almost over and we have had a great season. Many new shooters have come out to shoot this year. We’ve also had some new “300” Shooters: Chico Partlowe, David Reed, Terry Ballowe, Justin Lloyd, Wade Colton and Chuck Rutherford.

The VBA State Indoor Championship was held recently and MAC was well represented with 19 Shooters. Greg Sisk is State Champ in AMBHFS. JR Kirby placed 2nd and Arthur Sommers 3rd in AMBHFS, B Class. Tracy King was 3rd in AMBHFS, C Class. In AFBHFS, Lindsey Brown placed 2nd and Karen Williams 3rd. Joseph Dawkins placed 2nd in YMBHFS/R, and last but not least, Dalton Jenkins is the CMBHFS/R State Champ. Congratulations to all the winners!

In older news, Dave Robinson won the “Big Doe” contest with a hefty 112 lb. doe and Wade won the “Big Buck” contest with a massive spike.

Thanks go out to Keith Maddox for donating a load of gravel at the Indoor Range. Also thanks to Dana Colton and Lindsey Brown for working the kitchen during Indoors. Congratulations to Brian & Tracey Inglish on the birth of their son Levi.

Outdoor season is coming fast and a lot of work needs to be done at the range. Please contact Jeremy Spiker if you can help out.

Thanks, Wade

A Few Words from the MAC President…..

It’s a new year and we are getting off to a great start. New Executive Members have taken their positions and the transition went smooth. The Indoor Leagues are up and running and I’m glad to say the Sunday League is full and we have 9-teams on Thursday nights. If you’re not on a team, and would like to shoot anyways, come on out - there are usually open lanes, especially on Thursday nights.

New MAC shirts, sweatshirts and hats have arrived. If interested, see JR Kirby, he can also order special colors or other items from the catalog. A sign up sheet and prices are posted at the Indoor Building.

Thanks to Jeremy Spiker and Jared Williams for delivering and splitting a load of wood for the Indoor Building. Also thanks to Dana Colton and Lindsey Brown for helping out in the kitchen during the Indoor League Shoots.

The VBA State Indoor Championship is 27-28 February so if you need to renew your membership with MAC and the VBA, you need to get your applications to Gina Nadzam, ASAP!

Please remember to leave the Indoor Building better than you found it.
Thanks, Wade
